NJACS is celebrating 100 Years of Chemistry

in 2025 the North Jersey American Chemical Society is celebrating 100 years of vibrant research, impact on industry and materials development from the chemists trained and working in the North Jersey area. 

We are honored to welcome and hear the newest works from the following researchers. 

Morten Meldal

Morten Meldal is a distinguished Danish chemist renowned for his pioneering work in click chemistry, particularly his development of the copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction. Meldal was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2022, sharing the honor with Carolyn Bertozzi and Barry Sharpless.

Phaedria Marie St. Hilaire

Phaedria Marie St. Hilaire is a renowned chemist and business leader. Co-founder of ProWoC (Professional Women of Colour Network) in Denmark and DEI Consultant and Public Speaker. 

Rebecca Ruck

Rebecca Ruck is an Associate Vice President in the Process Research & Development organization at Merck, where she leads the Enabling Technologies group. Co-founder of the WCC Merck Research Award and the Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry conference.


W. Walker Smith (Roy G. Biv)

W. Walker Smith is a chemist and researcher known for his innovative work in combining chemistry and music through data sonification. He has developed a method to convert the visible light spectra of elements into sound, creating unique audio signatures for each element.
